all equal considerations, representing one star each" This site started out as a
directory of internet tools, grew to a directory of more than 1000 search sites, and now
lists and rates sites on it's own.
- Aliweb "...ALIWEB
proposes that people just keep track of the services they provide, in such a way that
automatic programs can simply pick up their descriptions, and combine them into a
searchable database. Because automatic programs cannot understand natural language, these
descriptions will have to be written in a concise and standard format. " This is
large UK database of web sites, but to include your site it requires you to put a specific
file in a specific area of your server, and follow its form exactly. There are far easier
sites to submit to...
- Four11 White Page Directory "Internet's
largest white page directory with over 10 Million listings. The best way to search for
someone's e-mail address or Web page." Chances are, you are already listed here.
If you register, you will get more access, and can personalize your listing. This is a
great way for people to find you.
- Galaxy "To
find the right place in Galaxy for your information, you can: Start at the Galaxy home
page and work your way down the topics, Search Galaxy Pages for a page which contains
information similar to yours..." This catalog does a good job of pointing out
links to by WWW, Gopher, and Telnet sites.
- The HUGE List "If your browser
supports forms, please fill out our Surfers Survey after you have a look around. "
A listing of links, sorted by catagory, with no discriptions or other clues of value.
- INFOMINE "Welcome to
University of California, Riverside's INFOMINE. Leave a email to suggest a resource that
might be added. If you site has resources of relevance to faculty, students, and
research staff at the university level they should be listed here.
- JumpCity "Please
tell us who created it, who will benefit from using it, what it contains, how often it is
updated, and any other information you'd care to include that would be of interest to
potential users of your site." A database of Web Site reviews.
- Starting Point "Submissions
are added to our "New Sites" section on the day they are received--in one of our
12 categories." Beware their Limit: 160 Characters for your discription. Lines
that don't fit their box format are broken in mid word.
- Switchboard "Find over 10
million businesses across the U.S.A. for free. Whether or not they're on the web. Day or
night with immediate results." This is a great search engine for finding
friends, and folks you went to school with. What limits it's business use is someone would
have to know your business name before they could find you. A basic listing is free and
includes the following: Business Name (up to 30 characters) Street Address City State ZIP
Code Phone Number Fax Number (optional) Toll-free Number (optional) Category Information
- TheYellowPages.com "Over
1,000 places to advertise your products, services or website for almost zero cost or even
free!" Lists about 1,451 links, making it small by some yellow page listings.
- The WWW
Virtual Library "Please mail to the following addresses to add new
documents to the World-Wide Web Virtual Library."This is a list of more than 200
virtual libraries. Find the group that your site would be of interest to and contact them
through this page.
